Initial Ideas And Plans For My Music Magazine

Type/Focus Of Magazine
There will be a range of different music genres and tastes so it will appeal to people in the age group of 16-25, but there will be no specific genre of music, just eclectic so that anybody interested in a certain area of the issue will read it, it will link heavily to online-related areas of music such as Youtube videos with the most views or viral videos that in in trend at the time, top selling songs or albums on iTunes in the period and give aways.

Target Audience
The magazine's target audience will be people in the age group of 16-25, so there will be a lot of articles non music related that will focus on the interests of people within that age catgory

Price
The magazine will be either free or online because the trend in sales of magazines that are free are highly increasing and a lot more than magazines in which you have to pay for them

Frequency of Publication
Weekly, because that gives time to be able to collect recent information regarding music and current interesting events to pack into a weekly magazine, because one month would be too long to keep in the know of recent music trends and sales etc and daily would become tedious and would get less popular far too quickly because the topics will be very similar

Issue Size
Because the magazine is weekly the magazine size will have to be quite big, so it will vary between 50 and 75 pages weekly, including information regarding subjects non-music related, linked with the internet and current affairs interesting to the target audience

Typical Content
The content will include sales figures of recent songs, for example Top 10's on iTunes for albums and tracks aswell as most watched or trending videos on YouTube, interviews with bands or music artists, reviews on new albums or tracks, upcoming events such as gigs and festivals, competitions like win an iTunes voucher, but you'd have to buy the magazine, obtain the code then enter via the website, tracks of the week, young and upcoming artists that deserve to be known as well as main interviews and features related to the front page.

College Magazine Evaluation

AS Media College Magazine Evaluation

My college magazine conforms to all of the typical conventions of a magazine as the image is medium close up and the top of the image covers the masthead to draw attention to the image. Also, the whole of the cover page uses no more than four or 5 colours and has the text concerning information on what’s in the magazine on the left hand side. The text itself is small but bold so it’s noticeable, whereas the masthead is a large font to show that’s the name of the magazine, there’s also a bar code, price and date.

The contents page too matches the conventions of a typical contents page as it has several images, but a large image to emphasise the main story within the magazine. It’s also separated into columns, so that it’s easier to read and find the page you’re looking to read. The background is white which is typical of a contents page and it says contents in bold writing at the top of the page. Just as the cover page, it has the date, name of the magazine and uses no more than a few colours, in this instance white, blue and black.

Young people are represented in a positive way as the cover story praises the hard work of a student that has been rewarded by winning a competition, which doesn’t fit the stereotype of teenagers that are represented in the media usually.

Overall, I’ve learnt how to use Photoshop to produce my cover page and tools within the program as well as Quark to produce my contents page. I also got a grip of the tools within the program such as crop, refine layer and editing the fonts, sizes and boldness of text.

Notes On Doing A Photo Shoot

Notes on doing a photoshoot

It's useful to use a light reflector so that the image
of who/what you're taking a photo of is fully visible

Using a good quality camera means the picture
quality will be better and you'll have certain
settings to help you get the picture you want

Be friendly and get on with the subject so they feel
comfortable with you and you're able to get a more
natural looking shot

Make sure there's no distracting elements in the photo
that takes the focus off the person

Try to make the background unfocused so that the
person is the main focal point of the image

Take a lot of photos so that you have a wide selection
to choose from

Make sure that the light source is behind the photo
taker so that it's not visible behind the person
